Two mass shootings in South Africa leave at least 27 dead

Two mass shootings in South Africa have left at least 27 people dead, according to police reports. The first incident occurred at a bar west of Johannesburg on Saturday night, where 17 individuals were fatally shot. Suspects, believed to be armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols, entered the tavern and started firing at patrons inside and outside the establishment.

Afterward, they entered the tavern and continued shooting. The attackers reportedly took cellphones from some patrons before fleeing the scene in two unidentified vehicles, which were also set on fire during the incident. The victims included 13 men and four women, with the attack taking place around 9:30 PM.

In a separate incident in Lwandle, outside Cape Town, early Sunday morning, 10 people were killed and 11 were injured in a shooting at an entertainment venue that also sold braaied meat. Gunmen entered the venue around 1:46 AM and opened fire on patrons. Five individuals died on the scene, and five others passed away after receiving medical treatment.

Eleven victims are currently receiving medical attention for their injuries. Local police have initiated investigations into both incidents, with detectives and specialized units deployed to track down the suspects. No arrests have been made yet. The identities of the victims will be released once their next of kin have been informed.
