This is an unlawful arrest – Baffour Awuah defends flight from EOCO officers

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, a lawyer and Manhyia South MP, has vehemently denounced what he described as an "unlawful arrest" by Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) officials. In an interview on Joy News' PM Express, Awuah recounted his account of the incident following his media address outside a court.

An EOCO officer approached him post his media engagement, informing him that he was required to report to the agency. Awuah recounted the officer grasping his wrist with such force that he had to wriggle free. He further alleged that he offered to drive himself to the agency, but the official insisted he could not use his personal vehicle. Awuah further demanded to see ID cards to verify the officer's identity from EOCO, which was allegedly refused.

This experience, according to Awuah, fueled his suspicion that the incident could be linked to a series of kidnappings he alleged were occurring illegally. He stated he was not willing to be taken into EOCO custody under such circumstances. He offered to remain in his car and assist the agency when they were ready, under the condition that the agency adhered to proper procedures.

Awuah rejected accusations that he was attempting to evade lawful arrest by heading to Parliament. He described the attempted arrest as an attempt to "abduct me by persons who don't want to work with law." He defended his decision to seek sanctuary at Parliament, citing sanctuary as a right against kidnappers.
