Baffour Awuah ignored two invitations before arrest attempt – EOCO
Anti-graft agency says investigation remains active and constitutional privileges will be respected.
Former Tamale Central MP Inusah Fuseini has denied that the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) investigation involving lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah is connected to his representation of Salomey Awity Baffoe. Speaking on Joy News' PM Express, Fuseini stated that the case is separate from Baffour Awuah's role as Awity Baffoe's legal counsel in the "Ghana Jollof" investigation.
His remarks come as authorities continue to investigate Baffoe, a senior nursing officer, who was arrested and remanded in connection with the TikTok account "Ghana Jollof." Police have accused Baffoe of helping to distribute videos produced by Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, who is believed to be the account's operator. Baffoe has pleaded not guilty to the charge of abetment of crime.
Fuseini suggested that Baffour Awuah should have accepted an invitation from state investigators if he was clear of any wrongdoing. He also claimed that Baffour Awuah had not responded to investigators' requests and had made himself unavailable for questioning. Fuseini further alleged that Baffour Awuah represented both SSNIT and Equity Loans in a transaction where SSNIT loaned money to Equity Loans, and the company owed SSNIT GH¢14 million at one point.
He claimed that Baffour Awuah negotiated on behalf of both parties and only recovered a portion of the amount owed. Fuseini also stated that Baffour Awuah's legal fees were almost half of the recovered amount and were above the legally permissible limits. He urged Baffour Awuah to report the facts and clear his name.
