Xi stated that China and the US should be partners rather than rivals, highlighting the long-standing friendly exchanges between the peoples and the deep intertwining of their interests. The comments came ahead of anticipated talks between Trump and Xi, who shook hands upon Xi's arrival.

Xi expressed his eagerness to engage in in-depth exchanges with Trump on major issues affecting bilateral relations and global affairs. He emphasized the need for a stable relationship characterized by cooperation, controlled competition, managed differences, and peaceful prospects. Xi also referenced Trump's slogan, stating that the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and America's resurgence can go hand in hand.

Xi urged both nations to chart a correct path for coexistence, expressing confidence that joint efforts would yield fruitful results, improve the well-being of both peoples, and bring new hope for global peace.
