CDF Munir says armed forces remain resolute in defeating terrorism, ensuring lasting peace: ISPR

Chief of Defence Forces and Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir declared on Tuesday that the armed forces are resolute in eradicating terrorism and ensuring lasting peace and stability, according to the military's media branch, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). During a visit to the Peshawar Corps Headquarters, Munir was briefed on the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, counter-terrorism operations, border management, and the readiness of forces stationed in the province.

The CDF commended the "high morale, readiness, and professionalism" of the security personnel, acknowledging their steadfast commitment to safeguarding the nation and its people. Munir instructed troops to remain vigilant and adhere to the "highest standards" of operational preparedness. He reiterated that the armed forces, with the nation's unwavering support, remain resolute in their determination to defeat terrorism and ensure enduring peace and stability across the country.

The visit follows a major attack in Peshawar's old Police Lines that claimed 23 lives and injured about 100 others. Eight terrorists were killed during an overnight clearance operation, while the armed forces carried out airstrikes on terrorist sites in the Afghan border region the following day, resulting in the death of over 28 terrorists. The military also conducted an intelligence-based ground operation in Kohat and Hangu districts to combat terrorism.

These actions come after a resurgence in terrorism in Pakistan following the Taliban's return to power in Kabul in 2021. Islamabad has repeatedly called on the Taliban to dismantle terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan, particularly those linked to banned militant groups, that are used for attacks in Pakistan. However, officials note that these appeals have been ignored.
