CDF Munir reiterates armed forces' resolve to defeat terrorism, ensure lasting peace across country

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir reiterated on Tuesday the armed forces' resolve to combat terrorism and maintain enduring peace throughout Pakistan. During a visit to Corps Headquarters Peshawar, Munir emphasized the armed forces' unwavering commitment to defeating terrorism, with the nation's support.

He was informed of the current security situation in the province, ongoing counterterrorism operations, border management measures, and the operational readiness of formations in K-P.

Munir praised the high morale, preparedness, and professionalism of the officers and troops, acknowledging their dedication to protecting the country and its citizens. He directed the formations to "remain vigilant" and maintain "the highest standards of operational preparedness." The army chief also paid respects at Yadgar-e-Shuhada, laying a floral wreath and offering a prayer in memory of soldiers who had sacrificed their lives in defense of the country and the fight against terrorism.

The visit occurred a day after Pakistan conducted "calibrated" air strikes against terrorist hideouts near the Afghan border, resulting in the death of 37 terrorists. The attacks came after 23 people, including 15 policemen, were killed in a mosque bombing in Kohat's Police Lines during Friday prayers. Eight terrorists were killed during a subsequent search and clearance operation.

Ittihadul Mujahideen Pakistan (IMP), led by Afghanistan-based Hafiz Gul Bahadur, claimed responsibility for the attack. Two days prior, two security officers were killed in an exchange of fire with terrorists in K-P's Hangu district, with eight terrorists from Fitna al-Khawarij killed in the incident. A UN Security Council report implicated banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and other terrorist entities in operational collaboration with the Afghan Taliban and other anti-Pakistani groups.
