Why have Imran Khan’s three sisters been detained for 30 days?

Three sisters of Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founder of the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, have been detained by authorities in Lahore. Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan, and Noreen Niazi were held for 30 days under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance. The sisters were accused of being prejudicial to public safety and maintenance of public order.

They were reportedly involved in the May 9 protests, motivated workers to damage property, and mobilizing through social media and public meetings. The detentions occurred days before PTI's planned nationwide protest and march towards Islamabad on September 27, demanding Khan's release and the supremacy of the Constitution. The government has taken a strong stance against the protest, citing a September 14 Islamabad High Court order that prohibits political parties and their leaders from occupying public roads and buildings in Islamabad. The sisters' detention has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.
