After Aleema, Imran Khan's two other sisters detained ahead of protest march demanding his release in Pakistan

On September 27, the sisters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan – Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi – were detained for 30 days under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance. The arrest came ahead of the party's planned protest march demanding Imran's release. Imran Khan's nephews were also held, as part of a series of actions taken against the political party over the past few weeks.

On September 20, Aleema Khan, the eldest sister, was arrested from her residence in Lahore under the same ordinance and transferred to Kot Lakhpat jail. Prior to this, police had also taken into custody four PTI activists and workers.

The Lahore Police declared that the sisters were "prejudicial to the public safety and maintenance of public order," citing their alleged involvement in the May 9, 2023 protest where they were accused of motivating workers to damage public and government property. The police further claimed that the sisters were "mobilising the workers through social media and public meetings to create a law and order situation."

PTI's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi warned the party against the protest march, urging them not to "enter a dead-end street" and emphasizing that they would not be allowed to shut down Islamabad for ten days. The PTI condemned the arrest of Imran Khan's sisters, calling it an "abuse of authority, a violation of fundamental rights, and an act of political victimisation."
