Sisters of Pakistan’s Imran Khan arrested in Lahore, jailed ex-PM’s party says

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan's party announced on Monday that his three sisters have been arrested ahead of a planned protest march on September 27. According to Zulfi Bukhari, a spokesman for Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, the Punjab police raided Aleema Khan's home and took his sisters, nephews, and their children into custody.

However, the children were later released, leaving only his three sisters detained. The sisters' names are Aleema Khan, Dr. Uzma Khan, and Noreen Khan. Both Aleema and Uzma were ordered by the Lahore deputy commissioner on Sunday to be detained for 30 days under Punjab's Maintenance of Public Order law. IT minister Attaullah Tarar, on Sunday, labeled the protest call made by Khan's party as illegal and vowed that authorities would prevent it from blocking roads and causing inconvenience to the public.

Khan, who has been incarcerated since 2023, faces 17 years in jail on corruption charges, a verdict he and his wife vehemently deny. The 73-year-old ex-cricketer, who served as the nation's leader from 2018 to 2022, lost his position following a no-confidence motion triggered by a political standoff with Pakistan's influential military.
