Uttar Pradesh: Yogi Cabinet Enhances Financial Powers Of Engineers To Speed Up Construction And Development Works

Lucknow, September 15, 2026 – During a Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to expand the financial authority of engineers in the state’s engineering departments. This move, aimed at accelerating construction and development, will allow engineers to approve and advance works within their designated financial limits, reducing the need for higher-level approvals.

The proposal stems from the escalating costs of construction materials, labor, and services, which complicates executing projects under existing financial limitations. Currently, financial powers are governed by the Government Order issued under Finance (Accounts) Section-2, a policy that has remained unchanged for over three decades.

With the enhanced financial powers, engineers from the Public Works Department, Irrigation Department, Minor Irrigation Department, Rural Engineering Department, and other related departments will be empowered to approve and advance construction projects more efficiently. This change is anticipated to streamline the decision-making process, expedite project timelines, and ensure smoother implementation across various development initiatives in the state.
