Uttar Pradesh: Yogi Cabinet Approves ₹300 Crore To Develop 14,429 Government Primary Schools As Smart Schools

On September 15, 2026, the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh announced a significant initiative to bolster digital education in the state's government primary schools. Led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Cabinet approved a budget of Rs 300 crore for the development of 14,429 primary schools as Smart Schools. This decision was made to further expand digital facilities within the state's Basic Education system.

The primary objective of this initiative is to provide government primary school students with better opportunities for quality, modern education through digital means. The cabinet has tasked Shreetron India Limited as the executing agency to oversee the development of these Smart Schools. The smart classes will be established in a phased manner, with the tender process ensuring that the project adheres to competitive bidding rules.

The proposed rate for each school, including sanitation charges and GST, stands at Rs 2,07,910. However, if the tender process yields a lower rate, more schools can be developed as Smart Schools within the total approved budget. The expansion of digital facilities will include smart classes and ICT labs in council schools, with a focus on student numbers and enrolment.

Additionally, schools with high enrolment will receive smart classes and ICT labs under the Samagra Shiksha scheme and the Digital Initiative Program for government upper primary schools.

By developing primary schools as Smart Schools, the Yogi government aims to make learning more effective and engaging for children. Smart classes and ICT labs will help students integrate modern technology with traditional teaching methods, fostering an environment that keeps pace with evolving technology.
