Zelensky signs decree dismissing Kravchenko as Prosecutor General

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently dismissed Ruslan Kravchenko from his position as Prosecutor General. The decision was made public on the president's website and came after parliament approved the dismissal on September 15. Kravchenko had submitted his resignation on September 7, amid an ongoing investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) under operation Carthage.

In this operation, Kravchenko and his first deputy, Maria Vdovychenko, were named in covert investigative (search) operation materials. Despite the investigation, Kravchenko has not been formally charged. He denies any involvement in illegal activities, such as the legalization of funds from call centers or possession of undeclared assets, stating that the accusations are baseless.

On September 14, Kravchenko sent a notice of suspicion to Semen Kryvonos, director of the NABU. In response, the NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) claimed that these actions were part of a systematic attack on independent anti-corruption bodies. Kravchenko claimed to have been on a business trip to France for a Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) hearing, though PACE confirmed he would not be attending.

The prosecutor general arranged the trip for Kravchenko on September 13, six days after he announced his resignation. President Zelenskyy suspended Kravchenko as Prosecutor General on September 14, a role he had held since June 21, 2025.
