Osun Shooting: Emir buried as police recover second corpse

The Osun State Police Command has recovered a second corpse following Sunday's shooting incident at the Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife, raising the reported fatality count to two. This revelation was made on Monday by the command's spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi. The Osun Accord chieftain, Olalekan Oyeyemi, widely known as 'Emir Ajagungbade', had his remains laid to rest at his recently completed residence in the Agunbelewo area of Osogbo.

Traditional rites were conducted in the presence of family members and priests, while Oyeyemi's associates waited outside the embalming facility at Osun State University Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH). The incident transpired when Oyeyemi was allegedly shot during a confrontation with a group led by another NURTW leader, Sibi, at the motor park.

A video surfaced on social media depicting Oyeyemi lying face down in a pool of blood inside a vehicle. Governor Ademola Adeleke confirmed Oyeyemi's demise in a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, directing the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, to identify and apprehend those responsible. The motor park has been shuttered as per the governor's order.

Police spokesperson Ojelabi announced the recovery of the second corpse and its transfer to a morgue. The investigation has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department. Ojelabi cautioned those involved to report themselves to the police instead of using social media to defend themselves. "The Commissioner of Police has vowed that everyone implicated will be apprehended and face justice, regardless of their identity," he emphasized.

Oyeyemi's remains were released from the hospital after suspected associates of the deceased attacked two hospital workers who were recording them. The Commissioner for Transportation, Sesan Oyedele, denied allegations of summoning NURTW leaders to his Modakeke residence to endorse Oyeyemi as the union's next state chairman, stating that the leaders approached him to seek his support. He learned of Oyeyemi's death approximately two hours after the group departed from his residence.
