Lim Guan Eng’s call to drop Umno from Penang govt not DAP stance, says Chow Kon Yeow

Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Chow Kon Yeow clarified that DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng's demand for Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to ask PH to remove Umno from the state government does not reflect the party's official stance. Kon Yeow stated that there has been no official directive from the party on this matter, and that all parties should await a decision from the PH Presidential Council.

He emphasized that statements made by individuals do not represent the party's official position. Kon Yeow, who is also the state chief minister, said that the DAP secretary-general, Anthony Loke Siew Fook, had called for the convening of a PH Presidential Council meeting to discuss the coalition's position on the matter. He reiterated that all party leaders must adhere to decisions made by the top leadership and refrain from issuing statements that could cause confusion.

Kon Yeow highlighted that even without the two elected Umno representatives, PH could maintain a two-thirds majority in the Penang Legislative Assembly. He also alleged that Umno was benefiting from the Penang PH leadership's hesitation over its role in the state government, while simultaneously collaborating with Perikatan Nasional (PN).
