Lim Guan Eng’s call to drop Umno from Penang govt not DAP stance, says Chow Kon Yeow

Batu Kawan, Sept 15 — Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Chow Kon Yeow has clarified that DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng's suggestion to have Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi instruct PH to remove Umno from the state government does not reflect the party's official stance. Kon Yeow revealed that there has been no official direction from the party regarding this matter, and all parties should await a decision by the PH Presidential Council.

He emphasized that statements made by individuals do not represent the party's official position. Kon Yeow, who also serves as chief minister, stated that DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook had called for Prime Minister and PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim to convene a PH Presidential Council meeting to discuss the coalition's position on the matter.

He urged all party leaders to adhere to decisions made by the top leadership and avoid issuing conflicting statements that could create confusion. Kon Yeow highlighted that PH could still maintain a two-thirds majority in the Penang Legislative Assembly without the two Umno representatives, despite Umno's presence in the Penang State Executive Council, city councils, and state-linked companies.
