PH prepared to go solo in Melaka polls, says acting state PKR chief

Malaysia's Pakatan Harapan (PH) is ready to go it alone in the upcoming Melaka state election, according to acting state PKR chief Adam Adli. The coalition is not seeking formal talks with Barisan Nasional (BN), the party that currently holds 20 of the 28 state seats. Adli emphasized that PH's preparations for the election have not been impacted by the lack of negotiations, and the coalition is prepared to contest all the seats it had previously contested.

"We must always be prepared because whether or not to negotiate is a matter of choice for each party," Adli stated, as reported by Bernama. He added that even if PH competes in all contested seats, it would not be an issue, as this was the case before the formation of the unity government. PH assemblymen have cooperated with the state government for over three years since the formation of the unity government.

Adli urged that political competition should not affect relationships among communities in the state, noting that PH assemblymen have maintained harmonious relations with the BN government throughout the election period. The mandate of the Melaka government ends on December 31, after which a state election must be held within 60 days.

Both PH and Perikatan Nasional are seeking to form a pact with BN, which currently holds a majority in the state.
