Umno Youth backs mega gathering with PAS to unite Malay-Muslims

Today, Umno Youth reaffirmed its commitment to support a proposed mega ummah unity gathering with PAS, aiming to bolster Malay-Muslim political cooperation. The initiative, championed by PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, should transcend mere assembly and result in actionable discussions and resolutions for the younger generation of Malays, according to Umno Youth wing chief Dr Akmal Saleh.

During his policy speech at the Umno Youth assembly in Kuala Lumpur, Akmal confirmed that Umno Youth is prepared to engage in the call for a mega ummah unity gathering. He elaborated that the organization would address the future of the Malay community and seek practical solutions for young Malays through the Rimbun or national roundtable discussion initiative. Subsequently, the gathered insights and enthusiasm would be disseminated across the nation via an ummah unity roadshow.

Akmal emphasized that Umno and PAS need not sacrifice their distinct identities for successful collaboration. He maintained that mature unity does not necessitate discarding one's identity; instead, it requires adeptly managing differences. He also dismissed notions that his endeavors to enhance relations with PAS imply an attempt to secure a new political ally, clarifying that the focus is on identifying common ground for the nation's future.

Despite facing criticism, including personal attacks, Akmal reaffirmed his resolve to proceed undeterred by past disagreements. He acknowledged that the initiative has encountered opposition but pledged to uphold the ummah unity cause, neither yielding to pressure nor compromising on its objectives.
