Several dead in Dutch coach crash in Switzerland

A coach carrying Dutch tourists from the Netherlands collided with a safety barrier and plunged down an embankment in eastern Switzerland, resulting in casualties and injuries, according to police reports. The accident occurred around 4:45pm between the communes of Susch and Zernez in Graubunden canton. The coach belonged to tour company Oad and was carrying 48 passengers, all from the Netherlands.

Local authorities have not yet released the exact number of fatalities and injuries, citing the need to inform the victims' families.

The Dutch Federation of Travel Agencies confirmed the identity of the coach and expressed shock and devastation over the tragic event. Oad stated that the passengers were on a day trip from Austria when the accident took place. Footage broadcast by Swiss media depicted numerous rescuers and helicopters responding to the crash scene. Swiss President Guy Parmelin extended his condolences to the families of the victims, calling the incident a "tragic accident."

Zernez serves as the entry point for visitors to the Swiss national park, a vast Alpine reserve spanning over 100 square kilometers. The local police have stated that they are currently focused on relief efforts and investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine the number of casualties.
