Armed man lunged at Democratic Ohio governor candidate, campaign says

On Sunday, an armed man targeted Democratic Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton during a campaign event at the Canfield Fair, resulting in injuries to several individuals, according to campaign representatives. The suspect confronted volunteers, causing them to fall to the ground before being apprehended with multiple weapons, as reported by Mahoning County Democratic Party Chairman Chris Anderson.

Despite not sustaining any injuries herself, Acton expressed her gratitude for the prompt response of law enforcement and her hope for the recovery of those harmed. Campaign spokesperson Addie Bullock condemned the violence, emphasizing that such behavior has no place in Ohio's political landscape. Acton is contesting the Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, who has amassed a substantial fundraising base and is utilizing his celebrity status and connections to launch aggressive advertising campaigns against her.

Ramaswamy's team decried the incident as entirely unacceptable, stating that candidates should be able to interact with voters without fear of threats or physical harm. The campaign director of Ramaswamy's organization, Connie Luck, conveyed a similar sentiment to the media. The Canfield Fair's police department transferred all inquiries to the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department, which had not yet provided a response to requests for information. The Ohio State Highway Patrol also declined to comment on the matter pending further investigation.
