Man City maintain 100% start with win over Coventry

Manchester City kicked off their season with a resounding 100% start by defeating newly promoted Coventry City, despite having to fight hard to secure the win. Manager Enzo Maresca enjoyed a pleasant outcome after giving his debut to young players Iliman Ndiaye and the £125 million signing Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine was brought in off the bench shortly before the match began after fellow Argentine Nico O’Reilly suffered an injury during the warm-up.

Erling Haaland, Manchester City's star striker, ultimately secured the win with a powerful header, capitalizing on a cross from Antoine Semenyo. Fernandez played a crucial role in the goal, delivering a precise pass to the Ghanaian striker. However, Haaland almost scored a hat-trick, having two shots deflected away by Coventry's goalkeeper Carl Rushworth and another effort ruled offside.

Despite several close calls, City's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma exhibited outstanding saves, repelling Jack Rudoni’s header at the far post, Loum Tchaouna’s low strike, and a late effort from substitute Ellis Simms. Unfortunately, Frank Lampard's men missed a scoring opportunity when Taiwo Awoniyi, who picked up a loose pass from Semenyo, failed to capitalize by striking the ball wide.
