Man City maintain 100% start with win over Coventry

Manchester City kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 100% winning record, defeating newly promoted Coventry City in a hard-fought match. Manager Enzo Maresca made an early impact by introducing debuts for Iliman Ndiaye and the £125m signing Enzo Fernandez, who played a pivotal role in the goal. Despite City's star striker Erling Haaland having two significant chances go astray, the Norwegian ultimately proved his mettle by heading home the match-winning goal.

Haaland's powerful header came after Antoine Semenyo's cross, while Fernandez's precise pass played a crucial part in the goal's creation. However, Haaland came close to scoring a hat-trick, with a thumping effort saved by Coventry's goalkeeper Carl Rushworth and another close-range attempt ruled offside. Rayan Cherki also had a notable effort, hitting the post after being set up by Fernandez.

Coventry City, however, could not break through City's resilient defense. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, the Italy captain, made several crucial saves, including a string of stops early on and denying Ellis Simms a late goal. The Nigerian's shot from a tight angle was wide, keeping Coventry without a single point in the season thus far.
