Keveun Mason had 158 yards, 2TDs and Temple adds two pick-6 scores in 38-14 win over Rhode Island

Temple's Keveun Mason delivered a stellar performance, rushing for 158 yards and two touchdowns as the Owls secured a 38-14 victory over Rhode Island in their season opener. Mason's decisive 1-yard run in the first half provided a 24-14 lead, which he expanded to 31-14 with a crucial 3-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. Tyree Alualu added to the Owls' momentum by intercepting a pass and sprinting 63 yards for a score in the fourth quarter, sealing the game.

Jamarcus Pierre contributed with a 35-yard pick-6 in the first half, while Jaxon Freeman connected with Jayce Smolik for a left-end touchdown immediately after kickoff. However, Rhode Island managed to tie the score with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Budge to Marquis Buchanan. Temple took the halftime lead 17-7, capitalizing on Budge's impressive performance, which included 195 passing yards and both passing and rushing touchdowns.

Budge faced two interceptions for the Rams (1-1), who are currently ranked sixth in the Stats Perform FCS poll. Marquis Buchanan amassed 137 yards on 10 receptions for Temple. This match-up between Temple and Rhode Island is the first since 1975, with Temple boasting a 12-0 record against the Rams. The next game for Temple features a home matchup against Elon in a Coastal Athletic Association game, while Rhode Island travels to host No. 18 Penn State next Saturday.
