In Nepal for eight days, Malaysian wife presses on with search for missing special‑operations firefighter

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 — Malaysian wife Hani Othman, who has been in Nepal for eight days to continue the search for her Special Airborne Fire and Rescue Team (PASKUB) officer husband, has joined a mission to deliver humanitarian aid to disaster victims. Hani is en route from Nuwakot to Betrawati with local non-governmental organisations (NGO) Samundra Nepal NGO and Himalayan Leaders.

The location of her husband's last known vehicle is further up, and Hani hopes that the journey will still yield clues to his whereabouts. She states, "I will distribute aid to the victims here. Let's see, who knows, we might find some clues." Hani distributed aid in Kathmandu and met the wife of her husband's team vehicle driver, emphasizing that all involved are good people who help others.

She prays for the best for everyone involved, regardless of religious or ethnic differences. Hani has not received any updates on her husband, missing since the flood tragedy in Rasuwa, Nepal on August 26. Two days after the incident, she flew to Kathmandu to gather the latest information on the search and rescue efforts. Of the 55 Malaysians reported unreachable, 77 have been found safe and brought to Kathmandu for processing before their return to Malaysia.

The death toll from the disaster has risen to 1,220, with 4,762 people still missing, including 844 foreigners.
