Rescuers in Nepal pull a woman alive 10 days after floods hit Nuwakot town

KATHMANDU, Nepal - Rescuers in Nepal pulled a Chinese worker alive from a hydropower tunnel on Saturday, according to a social media update from the prime minister's office. This marks the third individual rescued from the Trishuli hydropower project, with two Nepalese workers retrieved from the same site on Friday. The Nepalese army, in collaboration with South Korean disaster experts, conducted the rescue, extracting the man from a 225-meter (approximately 738-foot) tunnel.

He is currently receiving a health assessment. The Chinese state broadcaster CCTV released images of the man being evacuated by helicopter, with army medics attending to him during the flight. A photograph showed two rescuers carrying the individual out of the tunnel. Approximately 900 workers are still missing across 12 hydropower projects in Nepal, with around 500 presumed trapped in various tunnels.

The catastrophic floods that occurred on August 26 have led to at least 1,300 fatalities, while over 5,000 individuals remain unaccounted for, as reported by Nepal's disaster management agency.
