Police arrest one in Ogun over rape of 19-year-old

Police in Ogun state have apprehended a 20-year-old man, Ayomide Kamula, in connection to the alleged rape of a 19-year-old woman in Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo. According to a statement released by the command on their X handle, the incident took place on August 30, 2026, at the victim's residence in Odo Idi Scale, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo.

The victim's mother filed a complaint at the Ijebu-Igbo Police Division on September 1, at around 10:10 a.m., leading to the commencement of the investigation. The police immediately visited the crime scene to collect relevant evidence. Following preliminary inquiries, Kamula was arrested and is currently in custody undergoing interrogation.

The police have intensified their efforts to locate the alleged co-suspect, Boye Balogun, who reportedly fled after the incident. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution. Ogun State's Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, denounced the alleged offense and emphasized the command's zero-tolerance policy towards sexual and gender-based violence.

He assured the victim's family and the public that a thorough, discreet investigation is underway, and no stone will be left unturned in apprehending the fleeing suspect.
