Police arrest six suspected drug peddlers in Delta, recover illicit substances

Police officers in Delta State have apprehended six individuals suspected of trafficking illicit drugs and seized substantial amounts of prohibited substances. Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Warri. The announcement detailed, "The Delta State Police embarked on a crackdown against the sale and distribution of illicit drugs, following directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale.

On routine patrols along Alegwe Street, near Owa Road in Agbor, officers received intelligence and executed a search at a store believed to be involved in drug sales."

According to Edafe, "Six suspects were apprehended: Anabel Haruna (18), Terhemen Faith (19), Kaityo Abigail (23), Iorkee Eunice (26), Osomuri Emmanuel (31), and a 15-year-old female juvenile, the identity of whom remains undisclosed." During the search of a vehicle connected to the suspects, officers recovered quantities of Tramadol, Rohypnol, and other illicit substances.

Edafe further stated, "The suspects and seized items are currently in custody, and ongoing investigations are being conducted." Meanwhile, CP Samuel E. Erale cautioned that the police command remains committed to dismantling drug distribution networks within the state, emphasizing the dangers of drug proliferation in fueling violent crime and other criminal activities.

Erale directed all police units to enhance intelligence gathering and enforcement efforts against drug dealers and their networks. The Delta State police reaffirmed their stance that the state will not serve as a refuge for illicit drug trade or any form of criminal enterprise.
