Premier League sets all-time record with £3.46bn summer transfer spending – Report

Premier League clubs have shattered the all-time summer transfer spending record, reaching £3.46 billion during the transfer window. The English top-flight clubs had surpassed the £3 billion mark before the deadline, exceeding the previous record of £3.14 billion set a year earlier. An additional £475 million was spent on deadline day alone, compared to £391 million during the same period last year.

BBC Sport reported that the figures demonstrate the significant increase in spending within the Premier League over recent years, with clubs spending just £1.13 billion five years ago, marking a substantial rise. English clubs were also dominant in the list of the most expensive transfers during the window, with three of the ten most expensive signings in football history completed by Premier League clubs.

The spending highlights the financial strength of the Premier League and its ability to attract top players from around the world. Notably, newly promoted clubs like Ipswich have also been able to spend heavily in the transfer market, aiming to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
