Macron, King Charles hail UK-France ties after viewing Bayeux Tapestry

King Charles III and French President Emmanuel Macron expressed their admiration for the UK-France relationship after viewing the Bayeux Tapestry at the British Museum in London. The event, attended by British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his wife, marked the beginning of Macron's two-day visit to the UK. The historic tapestry, which depicts the 1066 Norman conquest of England, will be on display at the British Museum until July next year.

Macron hopes that future generations will remember the strong bond between the two countries, forged through centuries of shared history, as they continue to forge a close partnership. King Charles praised the loan of the tapestry as a symbol of trust in a time when trust between nations is scarce. The two leaders and their wives earlier met at King Charles' residence, Clarence House, and later joined Burnham and his wife at the museum.

Macron's visit is significant as he approaches the end of his presidential term and seeks to promote European sovereignty independent of the United States. The visit also comes as Macron and his predecessor, Theresa May, forged strong ties with the UK during the coalition of nations supporting Ukraine.
