Criticism over a lack of toilet paper in Czech train toilets has led to a leadership change at the country's national railway. Studying engineer Lenka Hamplova takes over as the new CEO of Ceske drahy (CD), becoming the first woman to hold the position. She succeeds Michal Krapinec, who resigned for personal reasons. Krapinec faced heavy criticism from the country's Parliament speaker, Tomio Okamura, who had received numerous complaints from citizens about the shortage of toilet paper in trains, according to the public broadcaster CT.

Okamura called the situation a "complete disgrace". A railway spokesperson noted that the company provides around three million rolls of toilet paper annually, but this was not the only issue with the outgoing railway chief. As the news portal "Seznam Zpravy" recently reported, Krapinec also lost the right to access confidential documents, with the requirement being a thorough background check by the National Security Agency (NBU).

The details of the reasons were not disclosed. The extensive railway network in Czechia is one of the densest in Europe, with a total length of approximately 9,344 kilometers. Besides the state-owned railway, private operators such as Arriva and Regiojet are increasingly joining the scene.
