Minor raped on sleeper bus that travelled 47 km to Delhi with zero checks

A minor girl was allegedly assaulted on a sleeper bus that made a 47-kilometer journey from Greater Noida to Delhi's Kashmere Gate without any police checks, it is reported. The incident occurred on August 4 and has sparked new concerns over the enforcement of safety regulations for both public and private passenger buses following the 2012 gangrape case.

According to sources, the bus driver, Kuldeep, and conductor, Sandeep, had taken the vehicle to a workshop in Surajpur, Greater Noida, for repairs after a technical malfunction. Upon completion, the two allegedly drove the bus back to a parking facility in North Delhi's Timarpur when they spotted the girl standing alone at Pari Chowk, signaling for the bus to halt.

The two men reportedly convinced her to board the vehicle. The girl was allegedly raped inside the bus, after which the accused abandoned her at Kashmere Gate before driving the bus to the Timarpur parking area, where they were subsequently apprehended by the police. The bus was noted to have heavy curtains covering its windows, which obstruct visibility from outside, violating safety norms mandated by transport and court regulations.

The bus traveled through key stretches of the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Ring Road, passing near major entry and exit points such as Chilla border, Mayur Vihar, Geeta Colony, and the Ring Road corridor, yet was never stopped for inspection. Police sources stated that installing barriers along certain sections of the Expressway and Ring Road might cause significant traffic congestion.

Additionally, no alerts were raised during the journey, as required safety systems like GPS/vehicle tracking and panic buttons were not installed or actively monitored. Forensic evidence, including hair and biological samples, has been collected from the bus and will be matched against the victim's blood samples for DNA analysis.

The two accused have also undergone medical examinations. The minor was provided counseling in the presence of police personnel, and her family was called to Delhi prior to her safe return. Ongoing investigations are being conducted.
