Anambra police confirm cult killings in Awka, insist only two persons died

The Anambra State Police Command has publicly denounced a shooting incident that occurred in Awka, the state capital, on Sunday evening. According to a press release by the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, only two individuals lost their lives in the shooting. The command emphasized that the attacks were carried out by suspected cultists, and they have been actively pursuing the perpetrators.

The police have called upon the public to assist in identifying the culprits. Information gathered so far indicates that three unidentified individuals, traveling in a silver-colored Toyota Corolla, were responsible for shooting two people at separate locations within Awka. Upon receiving the distress call, police operatives swiftly mobilized patrols to investigate the scene.

The victims were taken to the hospital, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths. While the identity of the first victim remained unknown, the second victim was identified as Aiza Nwosu, a well-known figure in Awka. Police recovered N7,550, one Moniepoint ATM card, and a pair of slippers from the scene. Anambra's Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, strongly condemned the killings, describing them as an unacceptable affront to the state's peace and security.

The CP has directed the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a thorough investigation. Additionally, security personnel have intensified patrols and surveillance across Awka and nearby areas to ensure public safety.
