JUST IN: Military rescues 15 NYSC members, six others in Kogi forest operation

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reported the successful rescue of ten National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were kidnapped by suspected kidnappers in Kogi State's Egume Forest. The operation, which took place last week following the abduction of 15 NYSC corps members en route to Bayelsa State, involved joint security forces. The rescued individuals are among the 10 victims successfully freed, while the remaining five are still being pursued by security forces.

The families of the abducted NYSC members had expressed concern over the incident, as the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N20 million from their relatives. The ongoing rescue operation is not only focused on locating and freeing the remaining five corps members but also aims to apprehend the responsible kidnappers. The Defence Headquarters emphasized that the operation is ongoing and appealed to the public to remain vigilant and cooperate by providing any relevant information that could aid the rescue efforts.

The DHQ urged the public to remain calm and alert, reporting any suspicious activities or information that could contribute to the successful rescue of the remaining victims and the arrest of the perpetrators. The rescue operation comes as part of security agencies' ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country.

With ten of the 15 abducted NYSC members now free, security operatives are expected to continue the operation in and around the forest area until all remaining victims are safely recovered and the suspected kidnappers are held accountable.
