One injured as troops rescue abducted corps members in Kogi

In Kogi State, Nigerian Army troops, joining forces with the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Service, local hunters and vigilantes, conducted a joint operation to rescue 21 kidnapped individuals from a forest on August 31, 2026. Lt Hassan Abdullahi, the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, disclosed that the operation took place in the Egume and Ochaja forests of Dekina Local Government Area.

The Kogi State Police Command confirmed that among the rescued corps members, 10 were students, and the rescue mission was still ongoing, aiming to recover all victims abducted in an attack involving two buses. The state commissioner of police revealed that the operation was still underway, with a focus on locating the remaining kidnapped individuals and apprehending those responsible for the incident.

Lt Abdullahi also shared that one of the rescued male victims had sustained a gunshot wound and was being treated at a medical facility. As of the report's filing, the rescued corps members were expected to arrive at the state police headquarters in Lokoja, where one individual was still receiving treatment for a gunshot wound, and another had been reunited with their family in Abuja.
