Chelsea sign Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa on three-year deal

Chelsea has completed the signing of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez on a three-year contract, just before the transfer deadline. The Argentine talent has been with Villa for six years, during which he secured the UEFA Europa League title. Martinez also played a pivotal role in Argentina's 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph, earning him the Golden Glove award for his exceptional performances.

Speaking of his move to Chelsea, Martinez expressed his excitement about joining the club, stating, "Coming to Chelsea, for me and my family, was an easy decision to make." The goalkeeper emphasized his commitment to success at the club, saying, "I want to be successful here. I’m someone who wants to win at everything I do." Martinez shared his passion for the game, adding, "I play with my heart and I will give 100 percent every game, every training session to make the club, my teammates and the supporters proud."

Martínez's journey in football began at Independiente before he joined Arsenal in 2010, where he gained first-team experience through loan spells. He later became a regular at Arsenal, helping them win the FA Cup in the 2019/20 season. His current stint at Villa saw him make 213 appearances, and he made his international debut for Argentina in 2021.

Now, Martinez is set to take up the number one jersey at Chelsea, eager to bring his winning mindset to the Premier League.
