Emi Martinez, Chelsea's new goalkeeper, expressed his satisfaction with the team's victory despite conceding three goals in his debut match for the club. Following his transfer from Aston Villa, Martinez's side took an early lead with goals from Romeo Lavia, Pedro Neto, and João Pedro within the first 32 minutes. However, Malick Yalcouye equalized for Brighton in the 60th minute, followed by an own goal by Pedro that further narrowed the gap.

Chelsea's Cole Palmer restored the two-goal lead with 16 minutes left in the game, only for Pascal Gross to deflected the ball, resulting in a consolation goal for Brighton just beyond stoppage time.

Reacting to the outcome, Martinez emphasized the importance of securing a win, stating, "A win is a win. I know it wasn't a perfect game. But in the end, winning and moving on is what we need. We've got 36 games left and it's one week after another. I am here for a reason." The Argentine international acknowledged the opportunities his team had to secure a more decisive victory, praising Cole Palmer and João Pedro's efforts to seal the match.
