St Mirren buy Serbian striker Agrafiotis from German third tier

St Mirren have bolstered their attacking options by signing Serbian striker Nikolas Agrafiotis from German third-tier club Wehen Wiesbaden. The 26-year-old defender, who has agreed to a three-year contract, brings an aerial threat and physical presence to the team. Agrafiotis is set to make his debut for St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership against Motherwell on Sunday.

Manager Craig McLeish revealed that the club had been working on adding a new striker to their squad during the summer transfer window. He emphasized that Agrafiotis will add a different profile at the top end of the team compared to what they currently have. Born in the Netherlands, Agrafiotis progressed through the youth ranks with Vitesse and represented Serbia at the youth level before playing for Dordrecht and Excelsior in the Dutch top flight.

However, his time at Excelsior was not without challenges, as the team eventually suffered relegation from the top division. Agrafiotis then joined Wehen Wiesbaden in January 2024 and scored 10 goals in 39 appearances during his first half-season, including both relegation play-off matches. Last season, he managed 22 goals from 39 appearances, finishing ninth in the 3.Liga.

McLeish praised Agrafiotis' experience, noting that he played at a high level in both the Dutch and German leagues. The manager expressed hope that Agrafiotis can further progress his career at St Mirren. Wehen Wiesbaden sporting director Uwe Stover expressed his confidence in Agrafiotis' ability to succeed in Scotland, highlighting his significant contributions to the club's success in the Hesse Cup, where he scored four goals in two wins and helped secure qualification for the DFB Cup on both occasions.
