Boreham Wood accept Vardy-beating record fee for Abdulmalik

Djurgardens, a Swedish club, have agreed on a record-breaking fee, reportedly over £1.5 million, to sign winger Abdul Abdulmalik from English club Boreham Wood. This deal surpasses the previous record of £1 million paid by Leicester City for Jamie Vardy in 2012. Abdulmalik, 23 years old, is currently in Sweden finalizing a medical examination.

Abdulmalik had an impressive season in 2025-26, contributing 17 goals and 10 assists while Boreham Wood reached the National League play-off final, where he scored and assisted a goal at Wembley. The Hertfordshire club had previously rejected offers of £1 million and £1.5 million for the former Millwall academy player. Abdulmalik expressed his readiness for the next challenge, stating his desire to prove himself and those around him capable of reaching the top.

Although Abdulmalik scored in his final appearance for Boreham Wood in mid-August, he later withdrew from selection to secure a move. Other English clubs, such as Peterborough United, had also shown interest in the player. Abdulmalik, who was once an England Under-17s international, was released by Millwall in 2024 and made an unsuccessful trial at Portsmouth.

Djurgardens, based in Stockholm, currently sit fifth in the Allsvenskan, a league running from April to November, with a two-game advantage over most of their rivals and still in contention for a European qualification.
