Sammy Gyamfi authorises lawyers to request Afenyo-Markin’s defamation writ

Ghana Gold Board CEO Sammy Gyamfi has officially authorized his legal representatives to receive a court writ issued against him by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin for alleged defamatory comments. This occurred after Afenyo-Markin accused Gyamfi of extortion in parliament on August 24th, although the legal notice had not yet been delivered to Gyamfi at that time.

Through his attorneys Ayine & Partners, Gyamfi has formally notified the High Court Registrar, General Division in Accra that his lawyers are empowered to accept the service of the writ and subsequent legal proceedings on his behalf. The notice, dated August 26th, 2026, titled "Notice to Accept Service of Writ on Behalf of the 1st Defendant in Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v.

Samuel Adu Gyamfi and Anor," was signed by Seth Nyaaba, Solicitor for the first defendant, on behalf of Ayine & Partners. The attorneys stated they had received "express instructions and authority" from Gyamfi, the named defendant, to accept the service of the writ. They subsequently requested that the court's records be updated to reflect this arrangement.

This latest development adds to the escalating legal and political conflict between Afenyo-Markin and Gyamfi, which has garnered significant public interest. Afenyo-Markin, who serves in Parliament for Effutu, has rejected the allegations and vowed to defend his reputation through appropriate legal channels. Gyamfi's decision to authorize his lawyers to accept the writ does not imply guilt, but merely confirms his willingness to receive the court documents via his legal representatives.

The acceptance of service is expected to pave the way for the commencement of the substantive legal proceedings once the writ and accompanying papers are formally delivered.
