Mahama charges Ayariga, Zanetor to uphold accountability, transparency

President John Dramani Mahama addressed the newly appointed Ministers Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, urging them to uphold accountability, transparency, and integrity in their new roles. He also encouraged the ministers to maintain accessibility to the public, pay attention to citizens' concerns, and ensure that their decisions align with the law, fairness, and the public interest.

Both Ayariga and Agyeman-Rawlings were sworn in on August 29 after their nominations were approved by Parliament on August 28. Ayariga was given the task of leading the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, while Agyeman-Rawlings assumed leadership of the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology.

While delivering his remarks at the swearing-in ceremony, Mahama reminded the ministers of the high expectations the Ghanaian public had for them. He emphasized that Ghanaians were seeking more than just the holding of public offices; instead, they desired tangible results, integrity, accessibility, and accountability. Mahama stressed that public officials must listen to citizens, act with urgency, be firm when necessary, remain fair, and always maintain humility.

He advised the ministers to seek professional advice, respect the institutions they lead, and manage public resources prudently. Mahama urged the ministers to ensure that every decision they make stands up to scrutiny, both legally, fairly, and in the interest of the public.
