Afenyo-Markin’s lawyers reject claims he is avoiding service on Sammy Gyamfi

Lawyers for Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin have rejected claims that their client is evading service in a defamation lawsuit involving Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) CEO Sammy Gyamfi. Dehyena Chambers, the law firm representing Afenyo-Markin, asserts that the writ was correctly served on Gyamfi's lawyers, Ayine & Partners, after the latter provided formal authorization for the service.

Initially, a report suggested Gyamfi had authorized his lawyers to receive the writ, but Dehyena Chambers clarified that the service was completed when the bailiff delivered the documents to Ayine & Partners. The lawyers further argue that Gyamfi's subsequent refusal to accept the service personally is irrelevant, as the initial service through his lawyers is valid.

The statement cites High Court rules to support this position, emphasizing that once a lawyer accepts service in writing, it constitutes valid service. Afenyo-Markin's team urges those challenging the service to rely on the correspondence between the parties and the court's official records, stating that the writ has been duly served and Gyamfi is legally obligated to respond.
