‘Maybe he was calling to tell us about the flood’: A family waits for news from Nepal

The family of Mahendra Vishwakarma, a mechanical fitter at a hydropower project in Nepal, is desperately awaiting news about his whereabouts. On August 25, Vishwakarma made a call at 8 am, but it was missed. His younger brother, Vikas, believes he may have been calling to inform them about the flood. The death toll from the flash floods, caused by a glacier collapse, has reached 626, with thousands, including Indian nationals, still unaccounted for.

Since then, there has been no communication from Vishwakarma, leaving his family in a state of despair. His wife, Kalawati, expresses the family's uncertainty regarding his location and condition. The family has reached out to the Mohammadganj police station, political representatives, and government officials for assistance. They are hopeful that the Jharkhand government will provide support for them to travel to Nepal.

ANDRITZ Hydropower, Vishwakarma's employer, confirmed that several of its employees, including him, were present at the site when the disaster occurred. However, several colleagues remain unaccounted for. The family seeks information from ANDRITZ Hydropower India and Nepal helpline numbers and hopes for Vishwakarma's safety.
