Estonia’s Foreign Minister Calls for Increased Pressure on Russia After Overnight Attack on Ukraine

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has urged intensified pressure on Russia and greater international isolation of the Kremlin in the wake of fresh Russian strikes on Ukraine, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to vital infrastructure, UATV English reports. The minister detailed that Russian drone assaults targeted numerous Ukrainian regions, with the village of Myla in the Kyiv region bearing the brunt of one particularly intense attack.

Tsahkna disclosed that these strikes led to the destruction of critical infrastructure, hit warehouses and residential properties, damaged elderly care facilities, and resulted in 27 fatalities. Odesa, Dnipro, and Kyiv were also among the targets during the overnight assaults. Tsahkna underscored that Russia's objective is unequivocal: "terror and destruction".

He emphasized that repeated strikes this week on crucial infrastructure reveal a calculated attempt to leave Ukrainians suffering from hunger, cold, and darkness as winter approaches. The Estonian foreign minister stressed the need to maintain unwavering and consistent international support for Ukraine across all fronts. He called for harsher sanctions against Russia, a deepening of the Kremlin's international isolation, and an end to any concessions to Moscow.

"Pressure on Russia must increase, sanctions must be tougher, its international isolation must deepen, and no concessions should be given," Tsahkna stressed. Ukrainian authorities reported that 27 people were killed and over 40 injured in the Russian assault on Bucha, a district in the Kyiv region, on August 28. On August 29, a 14-year-old girl also lost her life in a Russian drone strike in the Boryspil district, with additional people sustaining injuries.

A day of mourning has been declared in the Kyiv region for August 30 to honor the victims of the Russian attacks.
