Families of missing Malaysians to get briefing tomorrow

Seremban will host a briefing tomorrow for families of Malaysians still missing after severe flash floods and landslides in Nepal, according to foreign minister Mohamad Hasan. The briefing, led by the foreign ministry, national security council, and other agencies, aims to provide an update on efforts to locate those reported missing.

Hasan stated that Wisma Putra is prepared to assist families in traveling to Nepal if required, although access to the disaster region remains challenging due to damaged infrastructure such as severed bridges. While some individuals initially reported missing have been successfully located, the Chinese authorities have confirmed reaching several Nepalese nationals, though their nationalities have yet to be verified.

The Malaysian embassy in Kathmandu has also bolstered its staff to address the needs of unaccounted Malaysians and their families. As of 8pm on the previous day, 55 Malaysians were still missing in Nepal, and 36 in China. The foreign ministry remains committed to collaborating closely with both Nepal and China, cross-checking figures to prevent duplicate reporting.
