Families of missing Malaysians to get briefing tomorrow

Families of Malaysians still missing after severe flash floods and landslides in Nepal will receive an update on efforts to locate them tomorrow. Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan revealed that the briefing will be organized by the foreign ministry, national security council, and other relevant agencies. He stated that Wisma Putra is prepared to assist families in traveling to Nepal if required, although access to the disaster area remains challenging due to damaged infrastructure, such as severed bridges.

The foreign minister informed reporters that while many individuals initially reported missing have been successfully contacted, some Chinese authorities have also informed them about reaching several individuals, though their nationalities have yet to be confirmed. Additional staff have been deployed to the Malaysian embassy in Kathmandu to address the needs of the unaccounted Malaysians and their families.

As of the last update at 8 PM on the previous day, the foreign ministry confirmed that 55 Malaysians in Nepal and 36 Malaysians in China remain reported as missing. The ministry pledged to collaborate closely with Chinese and Nepalese authorities, cross-checking figures to eliminate any potential duplicate reporting.
