US judge blocks Pentagon from blacklisting Anthropic

A US judge has blocked the Pentagon from blacklisting the AI company Anthropic, ruling that its actions violated the AI giant's rights. Anthropic had refused to change its AI safeguards for fully autonomous weapons or mass surveillance of US citizens, arguing that the designation was unlawful and violated its free speech and due process rights. The ruling came after the Pentagon designated Anthropic as a supply chain risk, labeling it a risk to military systems, marking the first time such a designation was publicly made.

Judge Lin noted that the Pentagon's actions threatened Anthropic and could discourage public debate about its actions. The company welcomed the ruling and stated its continued focus on working with the government to harness AI for national security, while emphasizing the risks of using AI in domestic surveillance.
