Upside-down Jalur Gemilang, Perak flag: Perak MCA apologises, staff quits

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Perak MCA has apologized to the Sultan of Perak and Malaysians following the viral image of the upside-down Jalur Gemilang and Perak flag at its state headquarters in Ipoh. Perak MCA state liaison committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon stated that the party takes full responsibility for the incident, which was viewed seriously by the organization.

He confirmed that the unintentional mistake was rectified immediately and that the staff member involved had resigned with immediate effect. Dr Mah emphasized that the incident occurred when an elderly staff member was tasked with displaying the flags to mark National Month. Perak MCA stressed that there was no intention to insult the national flag or the Perak state flag.

Both flags were taken down and displayed correctly once the error was noticed. Police officers from the Ipoh police station investigated the incident and recorded statements from the staff member and the headquarters' administrative officer. Dr Mah confirmed that Perak MCA would continue to cooperate fully with the police. The staff member expressed regret over the incident and voluntarily offered to resign, which was accepted out of respect for their personal decision.

Mah noted that the staff member served with dedication for many years and that the organization would handle matters related to this incident appropriately.
