Upside-down Jalur Gemilang, Perak flag: Perak MCA apologises, staff quits

On August 28, the Perak MCA party has apologized to the Sultan of Perak and Malaysians following a viral incident where the Jalur Gemilang and Perak flag were displayed upside down at their state headquarters in Ipoh. Perak MCA state liaison committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon confirmed that the party took full responsibility for the unintentional mistake.

The incident occurred when an elderly staff member was assigned to install and display the flags to mark National Month. The Perak MCA emphasized that the mistake was unintentional and had no intent to offend the national flag or the Perak state flag. Both flags were immediately taken down and corrected once the error was noticed.

A police investigation was conducted at the MCA headquarters around 1 PM, involving police officers from the Ipoh police station who recorded statements from the staff member and the administrative officer. The staff member involved expressed regret over the incident and voluntarily resigned with immediate effect. Perak MCA accepted the resignation with respect for the staff member's personal decision, recognizing their years of dedicated service.
