Police probe farmland destruction, land grabbing claims in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has initiated an investigation into claims of farmland destruction, criminal intimidation, and suspected land grabbing in the Ajogbo Akia community. This decision came following media reports that highlighted concerns raised by the community's traditional leadership and residents. The police commissioner, Bode Ojajuni, has ordered a thorough investigation to uncover the facts, identify responsible parties, and ensure that any culpable individuals face justice.

The police clarified that disputes over land titles and ownership should be resolved through the courts, but if criminal acts such as malicious damage to crops, property destruction, trespass, or threats to life occur, individuals with legitimate land titles can report these incidents to the police. As part of preventive measures, the command has directed area and divisional police officers to deploy high-visibility patrols and intelligence assets in the area to maintain a strong presence, ensuring farmers and residents can access their lands without fear.

The police emphasized their zero-tolerance policy against illegal land grabbing, self-help, and threats to life. They also praised the community's traditional ruler and leaders for seeking law-enforcement intervention over resorting to violence. The police urged residents and the public to remain calm and cooperative with investigators, providing any credible information that could aid the investigation and contribute to lasting peace in Ajogbo Akia and throughout Ogun State.
