Nepal flash floods: 21 Indians from Tamil Nadu rescued, says Union Ministry of External Affairs

The Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on August 27, 2026 that 21 Indians from Tamil Nadu were rescued after flash floods wreaked havoc in three districts of Nepal. The official spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, shared the list of rescued Indian nationals on social media. Earlier, Tamil Nadu School Education and Information Minister Rajmohan confirmed that 103 Tamils, including Justice Sivagnanam, a former judge of the Madras High Court, had gone to Nepal for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

Rajmohan mentioned that 20 out of a 57-member group from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry had been rescued, after being caught in the floods while traveling in three vehicles. The group had left their belongings behind and reached an Armed Police camp safely. The government is closely monitoring the situation and has set up toll-free numbers, receiving 937 calls regarding rescued pilgrims.
