Government approves Metro Line 1 extension to Dong Nai and Long Thanh Airport

President John Mahama highlighted the benefits of new construction projects at Accra International Airport during a sod-cutting ceremony on August 27. The Multi-Tiered, Multi-Purpose Car Park and Airport Hotels Complex, a seven-story development, aims to alleviate congestion and enhance the passenger experience. Key features include 2,030 covered parking spaces, two hotels, a sky bridge connecting to Terminal 3, a shopping mall, food court, retail and office areas, and a sky lounge and observatory.

Mahama emphasized that the vertical construction design would optimize the limited airport land, improve traffic flow, and reduce congestion. The project will also provide additional parking options, allowing the airport to make better use of its space. A five-star premium hotel with 120 rooms will cater to various budgets, along with restaurants, shopping centers, banking and travel services, a food court, and office spaces for corporate clients.

The complex will incorporate advanced technology, such as automatic number plate recognition for parking, a cashless ticketless system, parking guidance systems, electric vehicle charging points, and centralized CCTV surveillance. These digital solutions aim to streamline traffic management, bolster security, and minimize delays.

Mahama stressed that the combination of parking, accommodations, retail, dining, and business services would revitalize the airport enclave, transforming it into a more dynamic economic hub. The development will facilitate longer stays and contribute to making Accra International Airport a fully operational 24-hour facility. Additionally, the project will support anti-soliciting efforts by the Ghana Airports Company Limited, the Civil Aviation Authority, and other airport stakeholders.
